Here's a shot of a WWII era bomber plant with a lot of preheat industrial fixtures. I got it from a 1942 Fluor-O-Master catalogue showcasing fluorescent lighting for war industries.

See the full catalogue here, it's listed as public domain.

Anyone who has seen a full ceiling of preheaters flicker at startup can very well imagine what it would have looked like to see all of them start a once.

that still beyond a typical transformer going to residental house as most common is 25 KVA for all electric house.
but i have seen 75 KVA pad mounted underground wiring powering 8 residental houses all at once with A/C going in hot summer days.

Gotta love preheat and MV. let the lights keep my meter spinning.

They of course would not have all been started up at once but rather section at a time.

I would love to have a video camera set up and recording during a power failure, in order to see them ALL start up when power is restored!! That puts my little 107 2 and 3 tube fixtures in my shop to shame!!

I would LOVE to be their electrical maintenance man! Would be a full time job just to keep em relamped! I see several that needed attention at the time of the photograph.

Preheat Fluorescents forever!
I love diesel engines, rural/farm life and vintage lighting!
