Big Induction Lamp with big Induction coil

Friday night experiment: This broken induction lamp, with low pressure Argon fill, will not start on its ballast but will light beside a Tesla Coil. The coil is big but its running with a 20v input just to create a nice field.

You may try to power the ballast up while excited by the Tesla coil, it will be more likely to fire...

No more selfballasted c***

Still no luck, perhaps the impedance is too far out.

What is your fill pressure vs. original ? And (this is not related to starting) have you managed to find and throw in some of the Amalgam ?

I haven't measured the pressure and don't know what is should be, however I have evacuated it as good as the pump will go which is normally lower than a discharge lamp. Then let gas in slowly while trying to start the lamp at various stages. I can see where it looks best but still no start. I must admit, I've not tried adding the amalgam as I need to disturb the seal I made to connect the vacuum pipe to the lamp. I might not get it as good the next time.

That's awesome you can do vacuum pump experiments!
