Magnetic preheat heaven 1

This is a Big W store (similar to K-mart) in Brisbane. I estimate the fittings to be around 40 years old. When I first saw these in 2002, they were all running coolwhite 65w 5' T12's, every single tube was heavily banded up.

Was a beautiful sight. Not long afterwards, the shop was completely relamped with 58w colour 840 T8's and the starters were replaced with Arlen electronic types. That was many years ago and I'd been meaning to pay a visit for a long time but never got around to it. However, last weekend I was in the area and decided to wander in to see what type of lighting was there. I'd expected all of the fittings to have been replaced with some kind of T5 highbay-type monstrosities so you can imagine my delight to see the lighting exactly the same as it was when I last saw it nearly ten years ago.

Long live magnetic!

Sure is, common sense isn't often seen anymore, especially with lighting.

when I worked at new world in browns bay 2004-2006 they still had rows, rows and rows of the original barrylight doubles and in about 2006 they were all replaced with the newer Philips tms fittings, luckily they were still switch start

They should've stuck with the Barrylites, they were bombproof fittings, much much better than the rubbish TMS battens.

I wonder why they changed them, bad ballasts? They'd be just as efficient as the TMS battens with a decent relamp of triphosphor tubes.
