I think this was from a 400W SON circuit, but I have used for starting halides too. Handy just having two wires.

I agree these are a lot better than the modern 3 wire ignitors not only can they strike the SON E and SON-T High Pressure Sodium and Metal Halide Lamps from 100 to 1000 watts, you can use them with the SON Lamps with Internal Snap Starters (Also Known as SON-I) for faster Restriking, where if the SON-I lamp was operated without the Ignitor can take as long as 20 to 30 minutes to cool down, then the Snap Starter to Close, then re heat , Snap open to strike the arc and the warm up to full brightness, with this Ignitor the lamp will stike within a minute. also with this this type of ignitor you dont need a tapped Ballast f (for 3 wire Impulse Ignitor), or use a Modern (Super Imposed Pulsed) Ignitor which you Cannot use Lamps with Internal Starters,

All the Best

Does no one make one like this? I took out a Tridonic From 06 the other day that was the same 2 cable design but didnt seem that good to be honest, All the lights in this unit took a long time to re-strike! One was not working at all so i changed the ignitor to SU40S!

Hi Kev

Never heard of the Tridonic form 6 the only 2 wire ignitor Tridonic Acto make is the ZRM 1000, this is basically works the same way as the Philips SI51 and is only suitable for metal halide lamps with an ignition voltage 900 volts (marked on the Ignitor is 0.7-1KVp (700 to 100 volts Peak). it's what I use for lighting my Philips and US metal Halide Lamps.

The GEC OS17 X produces as much as 5KV or 5000 volts, enough to strike any HPS or SON Lamp.

All the Best
