My Cooper OVX Installed Outside!

My Cooper OVX Installed Outside!

Click to view full size image

I got the hole drilled in the top to insert the PC socket I got for this and now it's mounted outside. :-D

It's 400W HPS so I don't plan on lighting this up while it's installed, just want to display it for the winter. I want to try my M-400A2 but a larger light will have a higher projected area, so it will "catch" more wind so if we got high winds it could rip off the deck possibly. I'll have to try it... I will light this up once to see just how bright it is though...

I was gonna say man, ya gotta light her up at least once. I am thinking about ordering a 250w Cooper OVH HPS. At least I think that's the model. All these Coops look so similar. Next, I'm gonna get a GE M400R2 then an AEL 115. Excepting the M400, I like the smaller cobraheads.

Same, I mostly prefer smaller sized cobraheads but some larger ones I like. You'll have to steel for a used M-400R2 (or NOS) I guess since GE discontinued them effective January 1st.

Stupid question, I know, but how many streetlights do you have now, Mike?

All my street lights have their own album on the Gallery of Lights. Since this site seems to be more fluorescent-geared I didn't do that here. I have 14 counting the NEMA head. That's not counting the duplicate OVX, which is going to another member (remember Tony from Holyoke, MA; Antstar85?)

I still have a lot of lights that I would like to own "someday". Honestly, there's only a few model cobraheads I don't care about owning lol. I never cared about owning an OVX though but I love my OVX now that I own one. A really nice light. I like the boxy look to it.

Can the OVX fit a full size ED37 lamp? I noticed on the spec sheet it is listed as available in 400w PSMH but for the lamp size it says ED28.

It can fit a ED/BT37 lamp for drop lens but FCO you can't since the '37 lamp would stick below the reflector into the refractor. Maybe that's what they meant? Often times the person who writes the spec sheet isn't an engineer who designed the fixture so there could have been a communication breakdown [insert Led Zeppelin song here lol] between the engineer and the office clerk that typed out the spec sheet. I've screwed ED37 lamps into my OVX. The socket does have to be set backward though. If it's too far forward there's not enough clearance.

I noticed that on the nGrid Investment Recovery website they have some FCO 400w mercury OVX cobraheads. Here is a picture of one:

I might actually email them about buying one (or one of the 100w MV OVX's) since they are one of my favorite "large" cobraheads. They also have a 100w MV FCO M250R2 that I really want.

Yep but you need to drive there in person to purchase it. They won't ship. They're located in NY too, so even though it's my electric company (NGrid) it's not their New England territory. There are a few lights I'd like to purchase from them including a 100W MV FCO M-250R2 and 100W MV OVZ with glass lens and a 175W MV drop lens M-250R2.

Aw darn. Do you know of any members located in NY maybe on GOL or something? I also want that FCO M250R2, but I would rather have one of the OVX's first.

I thought about driving to pick some lights up for me but it's five hours away. I'm not interested in the headache of arranging shipping for others though. Shipping cobraheads is too much stress and work lol.

What's the hard part of shipping a cobrahead?

Where are bucket lights when you need them?

The factory packaging in insufficient, so the fixtures would all need to be reboxed. And then I'm stuck with the light waiting six months for people to pay for the shipping so I can get the thing out of my house. The actual action of bringing the box to the post office to ship is not a big deal. But my basement isn't a free storage facility...

I suppose on the odd chance I do go there I'd ask if anyone here wanted something, provided they pay me in advance so I'm not stuck with something I couldn't care less about owning. I'm unsure how their pricing is too. If the lights were sold at like scrap value (like $10 a piece) I'd probably be willing to make the 10hr round-trip trek out of Syracuse, NY but anything more than ~$20 a light isn't worth me wasting my gas and putting the 625 miles on my car. I wish they had the same thing in Rhode Island or Massachusetts but they unfortunately don't. I'd only get used or old-stock lights from them if I knew someone on the inside.

If you do ever go there I would pay in advance. Either they are going to think they are still expensive and usable equipment and sell them at a higher price, or they are going to think the mercury vapor lights are worthless because they are "outdated." I would love to have one of those 1kw merc AEL 327's but that would cost a bomb to ship plus I don't have room.

A member on GoL got a pair of M-1000 glasses for $30 each so the complete fixtures are probably in the $50-75 range. If they didn't think they were worth anything they probably would have scrapped them instead of hanging onto them all these years. He did this back in 2013-ish and not sure if he's been able to contact them since. Apparently the guy is not easy to get a hold of.
