I've seen this lots of time with the plastic sleeves that they put on 54W T5 HO: http://www.lighting-gallery.net/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-59328

I"m don't speak english well, and rely on online translating to write in this site.
Please forgive me if my choice of my words looks like offensive, while that isn't my intention.

I hope that LED won't replace all forms of other lighting.

And its thanks for mostly the overuse of plastics. For this a specialised fridge tube that has a T12 outer glass sleeve with the inner T8 tube itself would be 100x better.

Everyone like to manufacture things with plastic these days and I mean in applications where metal and glass would be better and in fact better for your health. I don't do plastic kettles as my house in Reading has a stainless steel kettle and my mum carries to work a bottle of water in a glass VOSS bottle because she says the plastic bottles can infuse a substance into the water that mimic a hormone called Oestrogen and neither the BPA free bottles are any better. So for me a glass VOSS bottle or a stainless steel flask

LED streetlights are flipping Yussless!!!! I'd may as well be in the dark!!!!!

Why are clever designs like this are ignored for cheaper solutions that in the end result in a mess like this plastic exposed to UV emitting light sources and heat just makes it disintegrate (some certain types) but the type of plastic used for tube covers in fridges is one example, all going horribly yellow! Now I can see why this outrageous method is probably causing supermarket fridges to have LED retrofits or new LED strips installed in place

I think you're supposed to replace the sleeves with the tubes as they go EOL. Not reuse them every time until it's all brown and yucky. They're pretty cheap.

Why I like LEDs on top of other lighting tech?
LEDs = Upgrade 95% of the applications. (That is if you avoid eBay's LEDs).

LED brainwash? No, people uses them cuz they work well for them.

There's something called recycling. Just chuck them with the soda bottles and other recyclables.

I've seen some pretty bad melted plastic tube sleeves when I was a kid, in stores. Most of them were the result of EOL VHO
T10 lamps in door freezer aisles, and also EOL T8 lamps with sleeves as well.

Interests
1. Motorcycles, Women, and Lighting (especially fluorescent)
2. Weighting/staying extremely athletic
3. Severe Thunderstorms of all kinds
4. Food and drinks. So gimme them bbq ribs
Yep
Lighting has been a passion of mine since I was born. I consider everyone on LG to be a friend
