These blacklight lamps are probably operated with one preheat magnetic ballast and two glow starters.

Why? In Israel we can buy bug zappers at very considerably less expensive with an average of ~150 NIS of the most expensive bug zappers.

This is one that I have from Insect-O-Cuter. It has two F30T8 lamps, one BL and one BLB. They are preheat also, but use ballasts with built in starters. These ain't cheap either. I got four of them used from a grocery store liquidation place. This one with 2 x 30 watt lamps, one with 2 x 20 watt lamps and two with 2 x 15 watt lamps. They are all preheat and all use one BL and one BLB lamp.
Here is one of my 2 x 15 ones:

Bug zappers are fun! I removed the grilles off mine for better "action"!

Preheat Fluorescents forever!

I love fluorescent lighting, especially "old school" technology and I love diesel engines.

Yea, there are cheaper ones, but the well made ones are like well-made light fixtures: each part is replaceable and quality. You can get a wal-mart quality bug zapper, but it will not fry a bug to the degree of these commercial units.

Not much different from here. I noticed that there is sticker above the brand name of the bug zapper and that is usually affixed by the authorized dealer of the bug zapper. I have seen bunch of them on different kinds of hardware besides the bug zapper

Curious European (English/German/French) spelling on the bottom of the zapper

Pretty, please no more Chinese failure.

We have at the hostel i live in Kiriat Ata, bug zappers. The one on the second floor manufactured by Hemilton, with the two blacklight fluorescents (Now two T8 20W, krypton based i think as the formers were T12), the two glow starters and perhaps also the magnetic ballast (One for two tubes) can be replaced. This bug zapper was not as much expensive although i don't know what it costs. But i bet it was very much less then FGS said. $469.41=more then 1200NIS!!! which is more of a stealing money for a household bug zapper.
FGS: I understand you. This is probably an industrial bug zapper especially for supermarkets. Not only it contains two 40W (!) blacklight fluorescent lamps (The original lamps even comes with tephlon shatter proof coatings, but not in this case of this bugzapper in this picture, but i may be wrong), and possible electronic ballast. They also contain many features that except for lamps and equipment service are not available to a large household bug zappers. Also unlike household bug zappers that use the MAINS voltage to zap the bugs, this industrial bug zapper may use HIGH voltage i think to zap the bugs. But i may be wrong and both types of bug zappers may use high voltage (And indeed, i successfully made an arc in our bug zapper's grill by placing my screwdriver several mm near the zapping grill).
Note: Even if both types of bug zappers uses high voltage, it must be no more then ~500V max. Otherwise theirs zapping grills may turn into jacob's ladders (Arcing) and may cause the main switch to jump, causing a power failure.
