Using F15T8 on I.S ballast rated for F17T8 and higher « on: November 15, 2016, 11:49:58 AM » Author: Lightingguy1994
I have a 3 foot strip light that I converted into 2 lamp F15T8 a while back. When i use a magnetic ballast rated for them, it gets quite hot as well as the lamps, especially with BLB lamps.
Was wondering if a 2 lamp instant start ballast rated for two F17T8 to F32T8 would be okay to use to run two F15T8?

On a side note I have tried this before and it worked. Have also tried using 4 F15T8 on a 2lamp F17T8 - F32T8 ballast;  with 2 sets of 2 lamps in series. and that also worked.

Thoughts ?

Most F32 ballasts are listed for F15T8 as well, mine says it can run them.
Your best bet is to look at the label.

All the ones I own only go down to F17T8, are the specs similar enough anyways for safe long term use?

they will work but will be underdriven.
all 15t8 are preheat so i.s will beat them up.
may not matter if not started frequently.

You can also put 2 F15T8's in series on a 1-lamp instant start ballast, that way the ballast will "see" 3-feet of lamp

Colored Fluorescent's such as F40T12 Red or  Green or Blue are awesome...
