Pripyat Light Fixtures? « on: December 05, 2016, 10:48:45 AM » Author: dischargecraze
Hey community,

I have a question. I'm building this really awesome game that is located in Pripyat. I rebuild all of the building and roads, but now I want to rebuild the lanterns and fixtures. I tried to look up the fixture names but I couldn't find any information and so a few months later I just want to try it here.

Now I've got some links that might just be helpful, using street view in Pripyat.

Here's one of a fallen fixture, parted by the fall. There are more fixture that took a fall to see in street view, but this is one of the clearer ones. These probably fell because of the excessive rust these collected over 45 years.  :(

Here's another one, look at the rust!
https://www.google.nl/maps/@51.4029459,30.0502081,3a,15y,342.33h,119.12t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1ssoWqsveamzG0HOLSg4yrQQ!2e0!3e2!7i13312!8i6656?hl=nl

And a clearer photo.

That is the fixture I am looking for, so if someone could help me out that would be nice.
Thanks :),

The luminaires look like "generic Soviet" and the lamps are Mercury, therefore are probably named RKU-* (РКУ-*). HPS versions (not in Pripyat, but if this luminaire existed in HPS elsewhere) would then be called JKU-* (ЖКУ-*). Where * is design version and lamp power to identify the specific luminaire

Take a look at Gospodin Horoshiy's gallery : http://www.lighting-gallery.net/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=4231

While back i read through this forum thread, that was talking specifically about those lanterns :

http://forum.pripyat.com/showthread.php?t=2051

The forum is broken now so here is the archive, however all picture links are broken in that :

http://web.archive.org/web/20150428031523/http://forum.pripyat.com/showthread.php?t=2051

Generally here are some things in Russian you can google for :

светильники припять
уличные светильники припять
фонари припять
уличные фонари припять

A posttop in Pripyat :

In Pripyat you can also find ORZ 7 fixtures which were made in Poland by Mesko, they look like this:

I'm making a cleaned up version of Pripyat, as it was before the nuclear accident. So you can walk through and explore the city. It's not done yet but I'll upload some photos soon.

Pripyat was built in 1970. So that tells you the age of the lamps, they were made before 1970.

Here's a photo before the disaster:

I also have a little bit of a thing for light bulbs, too. Of course, hoarding them due to the incandescent bulb ban.

Quite rusty even back then..

The text on that building says "Party of Lenin - People's strength leads us to the glory of communism"

Quite rusty even back then..

Likely due to damp climate and cheap soviet steel quality.

The text on that building says "Party of Lenin - People's strength leads us to the glory of communism"

That sounds about right. Being a worker's city of young adults and teenagers (15-late 20's), pro-communism propaganda was everywhere you looked.

Pockets of Pripyat vary from normal air rads, to elevated, to deadly dangerous. Most of Pripyat is no different in radiation than anywhere else, but there are pockets of buildings and certain places where the radiation will max out a geiger meter in seconds. The tours will only take you through safe zones. If you know about radiation  and nuclear safety you can sneak in and explore at your own risk. The town is not patrolled or monitored, but some people do live there, but I am sure they do not care if you are a tourist.

The main road into the city is guarded by a single security checkpoint where they inspect and decontaminate your vehicle and ask your purpose. You are not allowed to take anything out of the city via this way as the guards have detectors and will find it, you'd have to sneak it out. Some people stupidly went to the basement of the hospital (death zone of radiation) where all the firemen's clothes are piled up that battled the fire at the reactor on the day of the accident, and they cut pieces of cloth out of the fireman's helmets to take home, not knowing they have extremely radioactive pieces of material in their home.

well thats just foolish... i mean i understand why they did it but at the same time, if you're going to be doing stuff like that, prepare first.. they should contain that in leaded glass if they want it, actually no on second thought , they should have left it be, it is kindof disrespectful l to the firefighters taking bits of their uniforms

Some people took a generator into Pripyat and turned the lights back on. Surreal!
