The other day, I went to Home Depot to get a couple of extra 100w HPS lamps, and I was informed that they only carry probe-start Metal Halides 250-400w.  They no longer stock Mercury and only 50-70w Medium base HPS.  The salesman told me that I might could get them online, but he is required to sell LED conversion kits which are $49.99 starting.  He only had medium base but you could buy an adapter to fit it into Mogul Base.  Boy that made me mad.  They used to have the widest range of HID lamps from Mercury to Metal Halide, all wattages.  It made me mad because it seems like even large home supply/hardware stores are getting LEDisease.  They have displays of scores of different LED lamps.  BTW, sorry I haven't posted in a while.  Gotta fix my computer, and my phone is hardly the best tool for looking at this site.

Yes its not looking good, factories don`t want to make them anymore, stores don`t want to sell them, even on-line suppliers are cutting down on what they stock, we could never get HID lamps in stores in the UK, it`s always been specialist lighting shops, (that would take weeks to get them), or electrical wholesale, so its not alot of difference here! But for you guys in the US I can imagine its quite a kick in the teeth!

I was at Home Depot today and they had HPS, MHs and MVs. Both mogul and medium base. I think that manager is full of it. Since I haven't seen any HID conversion kits to LEDs anywhere. http://www.lighting-gallery.net/gallery/displayimage.php?album=lastup&cat=0&pos=0&pid=131493

Why I like LEDs on top of other lighting tech?
LEDs = Upgrade 95% of the applications. (That is if you avoid eBay's LEDs).

LED brainwash? No, people uses them cuz they work well for them.

I've noted by now that 201SAs with catalog numbers beginning in SAM are consumer versions, while SAH are generally (but not solely) used by utilities.  But SAM are not used by utilities.  SAH cannot be obtained by consumers from GE unless it is a warranty exchange. (I tried, and unless I had a "customer number" they would not just sell me a new SAH10S1N21181) because those are manufactured and priced/packages for wholesale.  I don't get it, but I don't care so much.  Basically SAH are a consumer part built model priced cheaper for utility companies.  Maybe I should try again, hopefully I will get someone who will sell it to me.  I assume my money's as good as anybody's.

Structurally they are identical.  The only difference is between the SAH10S1N21181 and SAH10S1N21017.  The 1017 has a 160 joule MOV connecting the hot and neutral terminals, and the 1181 has no such MOV, but both of those are utility/industrial models.
