These don't come up often. 60's vintage clear medium base Merc lamp. Lots of blackening, but I'd venture a guess it still fires up. I'm tempted.  ;)  http://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-Strange-Looking-Vintage-G-E-Mercury-Glass-Light-Bulb-H100A38-STEAMPUNK/262487360667?_trksid=p999999.c100623.m-1&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20160323102634%26meid%3Df8f5e7cb30dd4d8ab8d8bbba9f690a15%26pid%3D100623%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D4%26sd%3D272271223378

By that standard, anything could be "Steampunk".

its basically a ploy to sell old junk way overpriced to put it short. It's a "hipster" thing.

It's a science-fiction movement that imagines how steam technologies –and Victorian styles– might have evolved until today or in the future.

Now, I agree with others, sellers use the term to sell hipster stuff. I see a lot of "steampunk lamps" that are basically rusted plumbing pipes with a squirrel cage filament bulb (vintage replica bulb), as if it was powered by steam! In your case, in the seller's mind the mercury bulb looks like an advanced technology in a very classic clear bulb design, so it would be steampunk.

The 100-watt A23 mercury vapor lamp is still available on eBay. The most common is the DX coated lamp. Some are made in China, so you need to be careful. I have found both GE and Westinghouse Lifeguard NOS bulbs (as well as Philips - that are made in China). A few years ago I found a GE clear bulb, NOS that I bought. However, the arc tube was not centered in the bulb which was a bit disappointing.
