Ballast Wiring Help « on: April 05, 2017, 02:31:33 AM » Author: HomeBrewLamps
I found this ballast in a local metal Recycling yard, It still appears to be in good condition and the condenser that came with it also is looking good (as far as i can tell) but the wiring was in tatters, the fixture this came out of appeared to have been hit by a forklift that was sitting nearby  ::), I cleaned the ballast and tried finding a wiring diagram for it on the web but had no luck, it is a 35-210901 04 GE mercury vapor ballast. If anyone here can help me with a wiring diagram for this thing it would be most appreciated  :)

Im not really sure the voltage rating of the ballast, the capacitor is labeled 277v and the lamp looked like it came off a warehouse or something of that sort, the bulb in it was smashed beyond recognition so i dont really know its rating, I'd guess from the pile of glass that the bulb was BIG and thats about the end of my talent in that department lol ;D

The ballast in my 250w metal halide GE lowbay looks like that. That might be what this is, but GE also made lower wattage mercury ballasts that looked like this.

If any of you have something tht looks the same, comapre the part numbers to see whether it is..

The 2 primaries and secondaries are either just for manufacturing convenience, or to allow 240V/120V operation by wiring the 2 sections of the primary in series/parallel respectively. Without an example of such ballast wired up i cant be sure about the latter, but i am sure that both for the primary and the secondary, the identical sections are meant to go in series or parallel

Do you happen to have a picture i could use to get an idea of where everything is suppose to go? that would be very helpful, im surprised google is lacking anything on this ballast other than an ebay offering.

I had second thoughts on its condition, so i pulled out my Multi-meter and did a check on all the coils, the two secondary coils check out at one OHM roughly, and one of the primaries checks out at 2,3 and 8 OHM's but the other side gives absolutely no reading at all, i looked closer at the coils and to my dismay it appears the ballast did not survive in one piece after all  :(
