yeah,me too benifits of electronic ballasts include no visable flicker, low noise, and higher effiency, although it would be nice to have a vintage magnetic ballasted one.

I'd only use the magnetic ballasted ones! http://www.lighting-gallery.net/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-23327 Check that link! I hate most spiral CFLS!

I like the pin-based magnetic ballast lamps e.g. PL-S, PL-C, 2D, etc.

Because the ballast is separate from the lamp, their lifetime is much longer than any plug in variety.

Frost PH ballasts, surely the best ones I've seen!

I like CFLs only for open fixtures. For closed fixtures: only incandescent.

I still use old lighting technology, it has absolutely no environmental impact, because my house is fed by hydroelectricity. ^_^

that makes perfect sense as cfl dont tolerate being enclosed very well, especially opperating base up.

Iv got 2 TCP made CFL in a Enclosed Fixture outside base up. They have been running for 2 years, know on at night. Iv only had miner issues with some CFL, but guys CFL have improved since the old Magnetic Ballast days, there smaller and produce less heat, and the High Frequency ballast do not have fire issue cause they are grounded. And will short out and not work again way before they even have a chance of starting a fire. But I understand some of you guys have ran in to big issues with CFL and do not trust them. But I trust them 100 Percent. Some of the new TCP CFL are real nice should check those out sometime.
