Powerlite Fluorescent Streetlight Closeup

Powerlite Fluorescent Streetlight Closeup

Click to view full size image

Closeup shot of the 6' variant of the Powerlite HO fluorescent street light luminaire. The exact same model of luminaire were used on the elevated portion of the Gardiner Expressway from when the expressway opened in the mid 60s to the late 70s when they were replaced with LPS luminaires. These had a fairly unique shaded design compared to the typical fluorescent streetlighting lumainire.

Unfortunately these luminaires were replaced during the summer of 2012 with LED luminaires. This used to light a parking lot access road.

The design looks very European. Despite its length.

Most fluorescent streetlights hereabout were for 4ft and 5ft tubes.

In my first visit to Montreux in the early nineties I spotted some 8ft PowerGroove lamp streetlights. They were all on span wires.

Yeah there was also a 4' variant made which I'd imagine looks even more European than the pictured 6' model.

Interesting you mention seeing 8' PowerGroove span wire lights in Montreal. I wonder if these used to be 8' PowerGroove lights. They were LPS until they got replaced with a more conventional HPS high mast lighting setup in 2014.
