Here I picked up for general replacement for my home, yet I found this a Polish made bulb version at the shelf at my local Home Depot at Providence Square, East Cobb, Marietta, GA, USA today (2017-2-26). One thing that is unusual that they punch a hole at the screw base here as shown at the inset of the picture. These bulbs set me back US $2.97 each pack.

The reason for the hole is to reduce the risk of cap separation at end of life. These lamps typically fail by arcing, and if the fusewires in the stem also arc, then the cap volume is rapidly filled with metal vapour from the vaporised fusewires. The pressure increase from this can be rapid and powerful enough to blow the bulb out of its cap. The small hole acts like a pressure relief valve, preventing the gas pressure in the cap from reaching the levels that might lead to its detachment from the bulb.

Curiously, these incandescent halogen bulbs have filament goes to the pinch area which it supposedly would extinguish during arc flashover at EOL

Pretty, please no more Chinese failure.
