700 watt mercury lamps are no longer available except from EYE/Iwasaki. That could be why they are being replaced one by one.

May all the great lighting technologies have their place in history.

Yeah it was taken last May...Alain, James and Jim were kind enough to show me some of the lights in the Seattle/ Tacoma area...in fact, now I look at it, that is actually one of the pics I took! I've got a few hundred from that trip...unfortunately they're still not sorted and commented but I can make them available if you like...

its just the camera....its not as green as it looks......and careful here....Dark Sky uses this excuse to ban MV....without telling the fact that camera makes MV look greener in picture than they really are

I wonder if there are any left just over 13 years later.

I wonder if there are any left just over 13 years later.

Last time I drove through there, they had all been replaced with 310W/S67 HPS cobra-heads. The Washington state DOT is actively replacing everything with LED now, so the HPS maybe gone too.

Your mission - should you choose to accept it - is to save unique and rare HID lighting before it's all scrapped.

It kind of sucks knowing I will never get to see a mercury vapor lit freeway.

I was lucky to see one in 2016. A two-mile stretch of the I-10 in Los Angeles was lit with 2nd gen GE M-1000s which were all 700w H35 with all clear lamps. From what I remember, they were replaced in sometime in early 2018 by GE 6500K ERS-2 Evolves. Not a single one was out either!

Power provider: Southern California Edison (SCE)

-Date decoder of some US lamps 1960-present.
-Switch and receptacle collector.
-I'll save what I can! Smiley

Theres an interchange in Newport RI with mostly 400w mv lights. The DOT has plans to rebuild the entire interchange though, so they will be disappearing. The lights are owned by the electric company.

Did you see the GE NEMA lantern that I replied to? It is the one that has the holes shot in the reflector.

This location is not to far from where I grew up. The original luminaires on this freeway were Westinghouse 700W/H35 OV-50's. As they failed or became roadkill, they were replaced with AE 327's or GE M1000's. In the 1980's, there were some spot replacements using ITT/American-Electric Series 25 310W/S67 cobra-heads. All MV luminaires were replaced with GE M400A2 FCO's around mid 2000's (I was not living in the area at the time, so I don't know the exact year).
