I picked this up today for $5. It works great and I have always wanted a light of this type. Lights like this were in my elementary school and I loved them then. It has an Advance ballast in it with cloth wires. The ballast is dated 9/63.

My high school has one of these!!! It is still there but the bulbs in it have been EOL for a decade so I don't know if the ballast still works correctly. I'm going to fix it this summer though.

Good quality things are awesome. Cheaply made things are not.

Love the louvers! My elementary school had rows of 2x4 troffer fixtures...very '80s.

My elementary school was built around 1982 and was 1x4 all surface mounted troffers except for the washrooms which had louvered fixtures for some odd reason.

Is that an old Westinghouse lamp in there? This looks similar to the ones in my school but I think the tombstones were sticking out sideways

Mine was built in '88. My middle/high school was built in '79 and '85 and was 100% T12 all the way through the time I graduated, although LED tubes have since crept in.

Mine was T12 for the entire time I was there. When I went back in 2011 or 2012 I think the lights all got retrofitted to T8. My high school was a mix of T12 and magnetic T8 until they started retrofitting in 2006 or so. Some parts remained T12 until 2011.
