Thorn 16w 2D non-integrated compact fluorescent lamps.
The revolutionary 2D series of lamps were introduced in the early 1980's and the 16w was the first to enter the market with other wattages available not long after.
The compact nature of the lamp and control gear gave luminaire manufactures tremendous freedom to design compact & slim fittings for surface mounting on ceilings and walls with a very low profile.

Classic lamps! I was surprised when I pulled out a EOL thorn EMI 2d just yesterday from when a primary school was opened in 1987! Beat that for life span!

If it's the original lamp then that is impressive! I bet they had a stash of them that they have been using since though.

I'd like to see a modern 4 pin lamp on HF gear last as long as that....
