SYLVANIA F30T8 BLUE 30 WATT

SYLVANIA F30T8 BLUE 30 WATT

Click to view full size image

I tried running it on F30T12 ballast and it didn't light, do these require an actual F30T8 ballast? I'd like to post a more detailed image but first ima light this sucker....

When I put my hand near the cathode it glows dimly near where I touched it... Does that mean it still has vacuum and the ballast is just not enough??

Mfd 5/54. These are preheat only lamps and yes you need an actual F30T8 ballast.

Current: US 120v 60hz
Power provider: Southern California Edison (SCE)

-Date decoder of some US lamps 1960-present.
-I'll save any vintage lamp... dead or alive! Smiley

Beautiful lamp. Try preheat I'm surprised it didn't start on rs. I got plenty of f30t8 ballasts if you need one pm me

T12/ t17 there's a reason they made heavy magnetic ballasts

Awesome find!
Try a plasma globe & it should fire on RS
And a 2xF30 RS ballast should light this fine as long as the 2nd lamp is T12
Or just do as others here have mentioned & use preheat

Colored Fluorescent's such as F40T12 Red or  Green or Blue are awesome...

@veryhighonoutput:
I totally forgot mentioning electronic!
Actually should be just fine even using it on electronic, if Programmed Start or RS.

A neon sign transformer for a short period will tell you of the conditions inside the tube are still original, (total pressure and partial pressure of mercury)or if it has breached to the outside atmosphere and thus will not start under almost any conditions.

Yeah it's a tough one I have a few f30 champions and mazdas they seem to struggle to stay lit on preheat constantly trying to restart. I will switch them out and others would be fine. Definitely try electronic if that don't wont nothing will

I did figure out how to light it temporarily for a picture, I used a Lithonia shoplight and a pair of jumper cables to extend out to the lamp pins of the shorter 3 foot lamp... It fired right up a really nice blue... I do need to get my hands on a proper ballast... I may contact ya soon VHO... I've been busy lately..

The phosphor in this would probably be the very unusual pure, unactivated Calcium Tungstate. It gives a deepish broad blue spectral band....sometimes it is mixed with pure Magnesium or Strontium Tungstates, the former gives a lighter blue and the latter a deeper blue so the colour can be tweaked somewhat.
