Halfpiper gear

All the halfpipers were sadly redone with new ballasts and lamps in 1997, and the starter sockets are gone. The three I popped open all had these MagneTek Watt Reducers. A bit disappointing, but at least they're still T12.

They're not electronic

I like my lamps thick, my ballasts heavy, and my fixtures tough.

Interesting to see that they replaced all the ballasts with magnetic RS in 1997 and not T8. Wonder if they were experiencing a lot of preheat ballast failures from running 34w lamps and they decided to change all the ballasts.

That's what I'm thinking. Most of the lamps were unbranded Philips Econowatts from 1997.

At least they're T12. What's the quality of these ballasts like?

Current: US 120v 60hz
Power provider: Southern California Edison (SCE)

-Date decoder of some US lamps 1960-present.
-I'll save any vintage lamp... dead or alive! Smiley

You can still get the sockets with the starter. Socket attached if you want to convert them back.

That's good to know. I probably won't actually do the conversion for a while but it would be good to stock up on parts.

The Econ-O-Watts, to me, completely explain the conversions to rapid start...

Yeah at least these are magnetic, and still Rapid Start. These are still quality ballasts we're looking at here.
Heck, I'm not sure I've ever seen a rapid start half piper before until this pic
