Are they just making them dayburn to test them or is it a contest to see which lamp lasts the longest running 24/7? It never ceases to amaze me when places relamp their fixtures and then run them 24/7. Like, you just spend huge money group-relamping everything and now you're going to let them all burn out again?

Metal halide lamps only last about a year and a half before going EOL when running 24/7...

They can last longer. HIDs don't last exactly the rated life. Depends on a lot of factors. Some lamps from the same batch last way longer than others. All depends on the precise chemical make-up of the gases inside the arc tube I suppose. Generally lamps last longer running 24/7 and MH may be included but the EOL is almost certain to be violent when run 24/7.

A properly maintained system with these 1KW metal halide lamps is very efficient. Yes they use a lot of power, but it's because they produce a lot of light. 1KW MH lamps operating vertically produce 110 lumens per watt new and can maintain over 90 lumens per watt.

Pride and quality workmanship should lie behind manufacturing, not greed.

Yeah I noticed there's a pretty big difference between 1000W MH lamps operated vertically and ones operated horizontally. Much better when vertical. 110 LPW is incredible for a quartz arc tube standard MH. Imagine a pulse-start CMH lamp? Bright as the sun!

Philips makes an 860w CMH lamp for retrofitting 1kw metal halide or mercs. I hear that they are a miniature sun, same color and everything.

Ah the picture makes it look like the sun is high in the sky. Is this shopping center open 24/7?

I think that Philips Allstart CMH lamps (And the 860W lamps included), are only for retrofitting probe-start and pulse-start MH lamps . They would have starting problems on MV ballasts.
