Don't be fooLED, T8 IS the worst thing to do to a magnetic T12 fixture.

Colored Fluorescent's such as F40T12 Red or  Green or Blue are awesome...

I think they were used for remote ballasted sign lighting fixtures that used to be used for lighting overhead highway signs and storefront signs. The ones here actually didn't use these can style ballasts. I believe they used conventional HO sign ballasts in a weatherproof enclosure.

These fixture have gotten rare since reflective signs killed them off on highways and most stores switched to using backlit signs.

I see those in F96HO sometimes.
