I bought a batch of F40/IF and thought they're all brand new from one batch.
Was surprised and annoyed when I just found out its contaminated with clearly used garbage.

Can someone date all these lamps please?

Slight correction, the last lamp is 8/88, note the newer end cap.

May all the great lighting technologies have their place in history.

If it is from '88, it's the first one I've seen with the vertical line to the left of the GTE logo. They phased it out circa 1986 making the GTE logo a bit bigger.

The top F40IF has different end caps with no beveled edge.

The bottom two have the same beveled edge caps.

Sylvania went to the bevel end caps in '86. The small GTE logo with the vertical line actually goes as late as '88-89. All three lamps are exactly 5 years after the original date code estimate, the square dot to the right of the dots indicate that.

So where does that put the the lamp second from the bottom? It was dated as Feb 1984, but it has the beveled end cap, which you said didn't come until 1986.

The second lamp is 2/89. BTW the top IF is one of the last to have the old endcaps.

I don't see the - which would indicate a 1986-1991 lamp in the beveled ones unless the coding system was changed.

To quote silver liner's word, he said "estimate". and it's just that?

The second from bottom IF can be 1984 or 1989? It seems like there is no agreement here on actual mm/yy.

Can someone clarify?

Sorry for the confusing words. I meant that all the dates on the IFs here are made exactly 5 years after jercar954's interpretion. I won't mention too much here because this is a public site and date codes are senstive stuff, but Sylvania fluorescent date codes on the GTE ones repeated every 5 years and there is also a way to identify if it is the first half or second half of the decade such as an extra symbol or underline, etc.
