The old halogen GU10 downlights in my bathroom are looking very tired and rusty after over 10 years so I decided to replace them.
I've chosen integrated LED fittings over another GU10 with LED retrofit option as the lamps don't seem to like the moisture or the heat build up in the recessed cans.
These are rated at 4.8w, 4000k and 450lm with a 40 degree beam angle.
They are IP54 and 90min fire rated. Also the aluminium bezel should age better than steel!
The connector plug has decent room for live in, live out and a switch loop.
The springs are quite strong and will no doubt mousetrap the fingers of the next person to remove them from the ceiling...

That is a pretty poor design because it could really mousetrap someone's finger if it's in the right place.

Almost all small halogen and LED downlights have spring clips like this.

Almost all small halogen and LED downlights have spring clips like this.

These extend far enough where they will mousetrap your fingers even if you keep them in front of the bezel.

I got mousetrapped by one of the Halogen downlights that these replaced. Every single downlight on the market is like this AFAIK. The trick is to pull it down, see where they are then make sure your fingers are out the way to the side before pulling it out all the way. Unfortunately for me my little finger wasn't quite out the way and it fcuking hurt! Still plenty of spring in the old ones despite spending over 10 years in the ceiling!

It's kind of a dumb design.

Maybe it is, but it is simple and works well. Recessed ceiling PIR sensors also use the same clips.

Well how else are you supposed to do it then? With ceilings of potentially Vatican’s thicknesses?
