Is the rectangular front electrode coated with something to keep the cathode glow off it Stan, or is it because the electrode area is so large for the small current used?

I think - front part is coated with any isolator powder (lack)- maybe it is probably, I am not absolutely sure.

The circle looks like a patch of frosting on the glass ash, but I'm not absolutely sure.
Hey, Stan, could I ask you to take a picture of this lamp unlit and direct the camera in from the side, 90* from this view, or is the lamp deeply packed away now?
