Amazing Stan.

Decorative lamps have always been fascinating to me. The first I ever saw was a flicker flame at church when I was a small boy.

This principle is simply, but make it in praxis it is not so easy. I read much patent papers, and if the development programm begann in our plant Tesla, I was presented oftly personaly near tests. Find equilibrium between voltage, resistance of electrodes (thanks different layers), ignition voltage and voltage PAST warming of surface, it is difficult! I have also with argon filled bulb and electrodes layer (phosphors) - do you know it surely - flowers etc.

They are indeed. To me the most fascinating are blueish colors and fluorescent ones. I never had any other than a Ne flame lamp, but used starter glow bottles on resistor as substitutes (they also can flash if the resistor is low enough)

in starters are used also organic gases, e.g. propane etc., (the same principle as use Geiger-Müller tubes) rapidly extinguished discharge - for quick discharge in bottle restarts and increasing useful ignition of fluorescent lamp. Therefore the arc contains also other ccolours than pure neon. Still I remind, that was used also hydrogen, partialy, because conduct good a heat from electrodes

Old and generic glow starters have neon, most modern starters have argon. The blue transparent Philips S10 in my mother switchstart/preheat 8W T5 fixture, have Ne-Xe according the additional blue and green spectral lines. The neon lines are visible, but there are also green and blue lines that I think that they are xenon.

High power neon negative glow lamps of over 1W, contains mercury as well. Several of these can act like a bluish/red bi-color lamp by changing their electrical properties.

HEY, Stan, I have a photograph of a "lamp" of Fin's which is filled with Helium and Ethane. It is some sort of voltage regulator and has a purpely-pink glow. I mention more about it here...

http://www.lighting-gallery.net/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-69167

I'll post some pictures of it and its spectrum soon!

Manufactured articles should be made to be used, not made to be sold!
