Local aquarium shop has these on clearance for $20 each (originally $69.99), so I picked one up. They are branded "Aqua DX" and come in a plain white box labeled "250w 20K E40" and "Korea". Anybody know the manufacturer of these? I am not familiar with any South Korean lamp makers.

Black glass insulator, as well as the bi-metal switch/starting resistor assembly that reminds me of Philips lamps. Light color is a deep blue with a hint of violet

Could it have been made in North Korea? (no, really).

Any machine is a smoke machine if you operate it wrong enough.

Lumex120, good point, even though we have a total embargo on North Korea, im pretty sure the reason many products are simply stamped "Korea" is a way to get around the embargo. N. Korea exports "made in Korea" stamped products to China, then China exports them to the US, the US customs can't nab the shipment due to the "korea" stamp as they cannot know for certain if it was produced in the north or south.

Also, thought ide add, the bi-metallic strip/resistor assembly and arctube supports in this lamp are identical to a similar T-shaped Philips lamp I have, are any Philips metal halide made in Korea?

Cool looking lamp.

Your mission - should you choose to accept it - is to save unique and rare HID lighting before it's all scrapped.
