Interesting fluorescent lamp with clear window

Interesting fluorescent lamp with clear window

Here's a F14T8 lamp with a clear window. The color appears to be 4100Kish. The numbers on the right end of the lamp is the only marking. But it definitely looks USA made. Ever seen one?

Could that possibly be a "directional" germicidal lamp?

In theory, won't more light be emitted through the window from the inside of the phosphors?

Pride and quality workmanship should lie behind manufacturing, not greed.

I have a box of Sylvania F8T5/WW lamps that have a clear window as this lamp. The only thing I can think of is that it used in EXIT sign applications. I doubt it's a photo copy lamp.

Preheat and T-12 fluorescents forever! Down with LED's and instant start T-8 fluorescents.

These designs I've seen with lamps with directional output - lamps for edge illuminated signs,... Theclear window offer way hiogher brightness than the rest of the lamp, mainly when a reflective coating is put underneath the phosphor layer.
But except this picture, I've seen such concept only with thin T5 tubes...

@Mercury Man: The clear window would not make it germicidal at all, when the used glass is not explicitly made to let the UV pass...

I will light this one in my F14T12 desk lamp when I have the chance. F14T8s are impossible to get to work on my old floor lamp that uses a ballast resistive bulb, it will only work with F14T12s.

May all the great lighting technologies have their place in history.

Awesome tube! Yes, it should fire on a "push, hold, release" type desk lamp. I have several F14T12s, but no T8 version.

Preheat Fluorescents forever!

No, they were stored away when I moved. I will have to find them and post a photo at a later date.
