Dave---let me guess----they are those ugly CREE units. The ones that are square with the ends curved tapered down? With the TINY microscopic CREE badges one on each side? That was the SMART part--CREE made the logo badges tiny so when they puke or catch fire, nobody will see who made them except the service man! The difference is striking between them, and the older one is color shifted too. When then all keep working, it us really hard to notice the dimming out, but they replaced one at the Stewart;s shop in Schaghticoke, and it is a 5000 K unit, as are the others, but the others are now a greenish color, kind of yellowish green, and the new one is a crisp (for LED junk anyway!) white 5000 K. the original ones are about 2-1/2 years old now and lost ALOT of light and color shifted quite a bit compared to the recently replaced one (in July 2015). The "crispness" of the older one is gone now, too, the light is now "softer" and slightly less glary. This picture shows the horrid optics of LED's perfectly, so much veiling glare from the fixtures that the camera blurs, and the new one has a really bright spot directly under it, only about 10-15 feet square, with a sharp and dramatic drop off in light levels further out, the car is actually sitting in a kind of dark spot between the fixtures, and they are close together---AWFUL! Full cut off is DEFINITELY the case here--what a waste of electricity to light such a small area and leave the areas between in almost full darkness! These must be the big 380 watt CREE units--at that height the 215 watt units like Stewart's use would not put that much light on the ground--they are on short 10 foot poles because of this issue! They make these things from like 36 watts to 880 watts, and they may even make a 1000 watt unit, which probably can't come close to a 1000 watt MH lamp at all! My sister wanted to put a 55 watt one in place of my OV-20 with 175 merc out back, and it only makes about 1100 lumens! NOT good! I told her I want one that makes 7900 lumens, and that is the 215 watt unit, with about 7400. These things are INEFFICIENT! They use the glare they produce as a way to make them look "bright". No thanks---I don't want to add more watts to get LESS light and in a small area and have it dim out 40% in 2 years, then have the driver/array unit fail in 3. The CREE units come in "standard output" and "High output" versions, and the standard output is more efficient, but has dismal light output, the high output has alot more light output but much lower efficiency and much shorter life. Wonder if these are the high output model--makes sense, as the number of failures tell the tale. Did you know LED is the ONLY light source to actually go LOWER in efficiency as the light output is raised? Overdriving them reduces efficiency alot, yet they are touted as the "world's most efficient lights"--yeah RIGHT--and O-Bummer is also "the world's most honest man", too, right? NOT! Cree and Obama---the 2 theifs that will wreck this country! rick D.
