Dead LED

Dead LED

At this Stater Bros Market, there is a partial conversion to LED that took effect last year. Most of the lighting remain as fluorescent with a few strips converted to a Cree strip model on the existing strip fixtures. One is already out lol.

Is the aisle really as dark as it looks in the picture? If so, then they need to get rid of those LEDs!

Pride and quality workmanship should lie behind manufacturing, not greed.

The LEDs are more directional than the fluorescents, they shine directly down on the floor, creating more glare than the fluorescents. They suck.

UGH! LED's are CRAP! The same effect is had wit the crappy Philips and Cree outdoor fixtures---blindingly bright when you look up at them, and NO--I mean NO light worth anything on the ground. My sister works for an electrical store and is suddenly an "expert" on lighting, trying to tell me why my old preheat fixtures are "inefficient", claiming Philips told her that the fluorescents constantly "start and re-start" during operation, and each restart cause a spike in power usage! Are the engineers at Philips REALLY THAT STUPID---WAIT--IT'S PHILIPS, so, apparently YES THEY ARE! She is trying to push me yo LED to the point ehe even wants me to sell off my collection of "antiquated junk" and get up with the times. Truth is, she is scared I will tell the REAL truth about these inefficient and crappy LED fixtures and retrofit lamps plaguing so many places nowadays, that it will get her fired! Personally, I don't CARE what she sells to stupid people that have more money than brains who want this junk, but the NYSERDA rebates to get this crap have to stop--they take money out of people's pockets through surcharges on electric bills--in other words, hidden taxes, to give it to mostly big companies and businesses to "upgrade" their lighting to this garbage. Frankly, there is not ONE SINGLE LED fixture worth the space it occupies in existence---they are all super ugly, and most all don't light the areas well, and are glary, and cast these nasty shadows, as well as power supply and dimming-out issues. It is because of lobbyists at greedy companies like Philips and Cree, etc, that the bulb and ballast bans exist, and we are getting this crap shoved where the sun doesn't shine---the LED's on this post are probably subsidized with regular taxpayer money, so WE own them, not the store owner. frankly, I hope they start failing in groups--that'd serve em right---I know my sister will get a lesson learned one of these days with a new installation of LED's having massive mass failures, I can just feel it. She has basically turned into a "do whatever Philips and Cree asks me to do" and an "Eco-Freakshow" and it is frightening to behold--she is actually competing with my knowledge, with half truths and outright lies foisted upon her by the sly characters at Cree and Philips, and she wouldn't have even gotten the job or made it in that business had I not taught her about this stuff. I ask her to order me a lamp I need for a vintage fixture and she answers with "The don't make those anymore, you have th use this much better LED retrofit/upgrade lamp instead". RIGHT. I asked her to order me some F20T12/D lamps and she INSISTS that the F20's ate not made anymore! Then why are they on store shelves? She claims remaining old stock, which is bogus because they have current manufacture dates! Besides, she will charge me above retail for the lamps to deter me from using the lamps she wants me to use, so off to Lowe's and Home Depot, and Wal-Mart I end up going. It's maddening! LED's SUCK EGGS, will NEVER be suitable for general lighting, are LESS efficient than even basic fluorescents, and are failure-prone and make a light worse than CFL-'s--YEAH, I WANT THIS CRAP! NOT!

UPDATE! Despite the dead LED, the whole store went full steam ahead and converted the entire store to LED. Fluorescent lamps are still used in the lower ceiling areas though.
