Found in the bathroom of an independent dollar store in Fontana, CA. Used like a normal bulb despite the Edison shape.

I see these bulbs often in restaurants used in those new hanging lights with weird shaped glass shades on them. I think they are considered very hip right now.

Collect vintage incandescent and fluorescent fixtures. Also like HID lighting and streetlights.

Hipster light bulbs

Haha, I agree with you there, Andy! I've seen lots of these in restaurants and bars that want both environmental friendliness and hip style

Hipsters...

I agree, horrible drywall job there. I'm guessing that's not the original fixture? Socket looks like it's been there awhile though (maybe it's just the bulb lol).

I don't think it's really all that old. It looks like the ones Leviton makes currently. I'd say its from at least the 90s or newer.

Keyless sockets haven't changed much. The design has been essentially the same since at least the 1940s.

Nice! They could of done better on that drywall rough in part though.

Long live the great old 20th century quality in electrical & lighting products!

That drywall job actually violates the NEC regulations, as if a fire started in that box it has free passage into the ceiling joist space above. They should have used joint compound up to the octagon box. this is a bigger issue with a fixture canopy that covers it totally, which will increase fire hazard. This should be called out and fixed, it is a cheap and easy fix. I imagine that bathroom is dim with that lamp. my sister has some of these in her kitchen and they are weak, but typical LED's. If it says "60 watt equivalent" on the package, it is likely, in practice, 25 watt equivalent. If t is over 7 feet high, little light will even reach the floor. They LOOK intensely bright though! the filament LED's are a little better for throwing light, the COB LED bulbs suck though at throwing light more than 3 feet. This one looks like it is 3500 K to 4200 K. And Dave, These style S-shaped bulbs WERE regular bulbs in their era! Merry Christmas!
