QL induction lighting in the Old Town of Gdańsk

QL induction lighting in the Old Town of Gdańsk

Nicely lit Długa street in the Old Town of Gdańsk. Illumination is provided by a mix of different light sources, induction, MH and fortunately only two HPS lamps here. QL induction lamps which are the main highlight, are installed in the free standing lanterns. Those lanterns were installed somewhere between 1996 and 1998, it's hard to find info with exact installation date. At that time it was a revolutionary installation and its uniqueness is actual up to this day. It was then the only example of significant installation which used white light sources other than MV lamps (which were steadily replaced by HPS) as MH lamps were something new on the market and mostly unknown (at that time billboard manufacturers were the first ones to realise the usefulness of MH lamps) while fluorescents were considered to be more of a relict than MV lamps (though some manufacturers later returned to this idea by making park fixtures for PL-L lamps) and there were even fewer than MV installations. Lamps provide nice warm white color and I did not see any failures (in neighboring area to Długa street there are only 4 fixtures converted to high pressure discharge lamps and they are that way for as long as I remember so maybe they were faulty from the get go). Overall the induction lighting does its job as intended. The wall mounted old fixtures have MH lamps but that's a recent thing, before 2016 those fixtures had HPS lamps which badly contrasted with induction lamps.

Thanks . This street is really photogenic, especially at this time of the year when there are Christmas decorations.
