OK this is definitely uncommon nowadays. I remember a shopping mall near me which had in the past 80W MV lamps everywhere in the ceiling downlighters, ceiling as well painted in a kind of yellowish-green color, quite similar to Deluxe MV lamps when they are greened out... Probably they wanted it like this

The same shopping mall used to have 215W F96T12 VHO fixtures in their big shopping centre...

Actually this photo is historic, those MVs went gone some time ago, now there is a mix of fluorescents and LEDs. Temporarily between MVs and current situation there were metal halide lamps for a short time.

100w and 175w MV recessed lights used to be fairly common in shopping concourses and malls around here but most have since gotten replaced with PSMH/CFL/LED lights. There's still a couple of shopping malls with some missed out mercury lights though.

Here MVs were only in big halls like that above where there was place for street lighting fixtures, recessed lights as an idea was something unusual at that time.
