Osram Powerstar HQI-BT 400w

Very nice 400w Osram metal halide lamp with a 5500k colour temperature and very high colour rendering properties although they are not as efficient as warmer coloured lamps.

The bulged outer jacket was to solve a problem of the outer sometimes reaching softening temperature and being "sucked in" when used horizontally.

Would the bulge also help in case of lamp explosion at EOL to stop the outer glass from breaking?

There is something interesting here. The box depicts a lamp with a Barium Azide getter whereas the actual lamp has a ZrAl sintered pellet getter, so they must have changed the lamp's design without changing the packet artwork to match.
I have a couple of Sylvania versions of this BT lampm but cannot remember if I have this Osram one from Spandau.

Manufactured articles should be made to be used, not made to be sold!
