Osram 18w SOX: EOL

The lamp in my converted Thorn Gamma 6 which resides on my patio finally threw the towel in after 3 years, 9 months and 25 days.
Not sure how many hours it’s clocked up buts it’s ran every night since it was installed.

Cause of failure seems to be a fractured arc tube and subsequent leak.

Yes dawn till dusk from the 30th of Jan 2016 to the 23rd of November 2019.
I think these are rated for 18,000 hours to 50% failures so its done sort of alright. Was hoping to get 4 years out of it though. I whacked in a new lamp but I'm not sure if it's staying... I have gear for 35w SDW-T lamps which I may decided to install.

UK out of the EU!

Seems about an average life span to me but not excellent. Mine has been in just 2 days short of 2 years 2 months so there should be at least another year and a half left going off this one

I have plenty of 18w SOX lamps now ive recently just ordered another 5 Osram that i am awaiting being delivered, i have the 2 From Rich, (AngryHorse) To test for him and 4 Thorn branded ones of which i will use 2 maximum

hmm seems like a decent life span, compared to what LCC (lincs county council) use now at the moment are PSG lamps and they go very dim after a lifespan of a year but my older PSG looks new even though is from 2014 and works fine but theirs still some GE 55w and 35w lamps around along with the odd osram which i have a 1996 mine is i believe and still works but the Sox Plus lamps i think last way longer as i have only had a faulty one where it was damaged from a vandalised lantern.

3 and a half years is average for an 18, I never had any Philips ones go over 4 years!, but Osrams Shaw plant was a different story, I had one of Duke Mills 18 watt SOX do a stunning 6 years and eight months!

Current: UK 230V, 50Hz
Power provider: e.on energy
Street lighting in our town: Philips UniStreet LED
