I got a couple of these myself. They are one of the best made SOX lamps ever.

Bring SOX lamps back!!!

FYI, LED's are NOT the most efficient lighting technology available! Don't know how people keep coming to that conclusion!

My other interests: sports cars, refrigeration, microcontroller projects, computer hardware, and any sort of custom fabrication.

yes these and the Thorn SOX lamps were the Rolls Royce of Low Pressure Sodium Lamps, even the early Philips SOX lamps were the best at one time but since the 1990's when GEC and Thorn were Sold off to OSRAM GmbH and GE Lighting, and Philips doing away with the Metal Supports for Mycelex Supports SOX lamps became rubbish, until the SOX-PSG lamps were introduced, today SOX lamps are only made at the Hamilton Factory by Philips for Both Philips and OSRAM, however they are at risk as I have heard that they have Closed the Outdoor Lighting section. except for the SOX lamp production see HERE

True but there is rumours that SOX is to be Phased out by 2017 but I will never understand why as they are the most efficient light source on the market.

@sailormoon_01_uk I agree SOS, we must preserve SOX lanterns and stock up on lamps for our lanterns while we still can, although SOX may die out it will always live forever in the safety of our collections

apparently the reason for SOX being mass installed was in the 1970s there was miners strike so not much power, if there is ever an energy shortage again I would like to see SOX being installed but unfortunately it would probably be LED. It would be cool if they did Monochromatic orange LED to replace SOX or even a tubular Monochromatic LED lamp to retro fit our SOX lanterns and use the ballast as a resistor and when they all fail they can go back to good old SOX.

Bloody hell it will affact SOX in USA too as we get lamps from UK, and we have no regulation on them
