This replaced an similar Intermatic one years ago that eventually started turning on extremely late (very dark). Now this one does the same thing. I think it’s because it faces South and gets direct sun all day and damages the eye. As you can see, the printing and paint has disappeared from the control over the years. I’ve had a few odd nightmares about this control cycling the lights during the day (from improper wiring) and me wiring up all kinds of other strange photocells to this box - but in reality none of that ever happened. This is a time-delay type photocontrol.

Thermal photocontrols lose sensativity with age. Due to the cadmium sulfide eye degrading from direct sunlight/heat. This would cause the photocontrol to turn the light on earlier, not later. Another cause is the reason for your light turning on late.

Never seen a stem mount P-Cell with a transparent window. Mostly, they have a non-transparent window (except where the CdS cell is).

Maybe install a PC with a knuckle and aim it down to avoid sunlight...that's what I'd do.

Your mission - should you choose to except it - is to save unique and rare HID lighting before it's all scrapped.

I don't know why they are failing this way but the direct sun probably isn't helping. They were not originally clear like this so I was surprised to see the paint & printing disappear. I'm going to leave it alone as the house is being sold anyway and it still works so that is all that matters...

I'm lampin...

Are you moving away?
