Those look like LOA Shoplights, i have a couple and one of them i was using outdoors for painting at night and it held up really well despite being knocked around and rained on multiple times.

Old lighting is, and will always be, the best lighting.

Best fixture? What kind of ballasts are in these? If it's those strange magnetic ballasted shop lights with
internal starters in them, I'd be surprised. Because I honestly didn't know there were versions of those that actually
held up well lol

Interests
1. Motorcycles, Women, and Lighting (especially fluorescent)
2. Weighting/staying extremely athletic
3. Severe Thunderstorms of all kinds
4. Food and drinks. So gimme them bbq ribs

@suzikir: I think he meant that as a joke. These are your typical, crappy LOA shoplights with those chokes and electronic starters.

-Date decoder of most US lamps 1960-present.

-Collects all types of lights.

I'll save any vintage lamp... dead or alive! Smiley

LOA ? I'd say DOA , however since most if not all here know of the "quality" of these lights, maybe LOL is appropriate !

How exactly do lamps EOL with those strange magnetic ballasts anyways? Is it violent? Does it kill the ballast?
I've never seen lamps EOL with those ballasts. I've seen lamps perform very, very poorly with those ballasts though lol

@suzukir122:
Sometimes EOL lamps on these will flicker - somewhat like a RS
Other times they'll blink kinda like a preheat, but faster.
Once the bad filament breaks, that lamp simply shuts off (just like a preheat would)

Main problem with these is...if the EOL lamp lasts long enough, it'll cause the ballast to overheat, and since there's no thermal protection it goes up in smoke! (pretty nasty smelling stuff too)

Colored Fluorescent's such as F40T12 Red or  Green or Blue are awesome...

@wide-lite 1000, oh I definitely figured that one. Actually, I keep forgetting that I own one. (Pacific Ballast) The ballast
was inside one of my kitchen fixtures when I got this apartment, before I replaced it immediately. I still have it, and haven't
used it ever since. But lamps were dim and lame with that ballast. Even when I leave my apartment, that ballast ain't going
back in that fixture. I'll make sure of it. lol

@Xmaslightguy, yeah I always thought they'd probably just flicker like a preheat or something. No
brilliant orange flashing with these ballasts I take it? Even so, these ballasts suck. They're the
only magnetic ballasts I can think of that I really, really can't trust. They're about at the
same level as LED's to me

I have one that I have kept in the collection. Actually I got it about a yeat ago. They are great for testing tubes because they will fire up nearly anything and they let you know if you have a broken filament because it won't do anything. I tested a whole batch of T8s with mine. It acts very strange with them but all I wanted to do was quickly eliminate the bad ones.
I had one of these as a child but it went up in smoke when a tube EOLed and would then only burn one tube so I tossed it.

Preheat Fluorescents forever!
I love diesel engines, rural/farm life and vintage lighting!
