Magnetic T8 Ballast

During some rewiring I opened up a vaportight fixture to find this gem. Appears to be magnetic. I've heard of them but never seen one before.

That is a magnetic rapid start F32T8 ballast! Nice find!

Don't be fooLED, T8 IS the worst thing to do to a magnetic T12 fixture.

You're going to enjoy the heck out of it, these are great ballasts. Usually rare in the wild but they do turn up on ebay

Did you find this T8 Magnetic Rapid Start Ballast at complete random? If so, that doesn't happen very often.
Very reliable, strong ballast. Lucky you man

Yup, found while I was working on a job. Actually found a second one this morning when I opened up the fixtures in another room. The customer had some off brand direct wire led's install so I happily tucked these in the truck.

These are only 350 ocv? I know that's more than regular F40T12 ballasts, but I'd thought they'd be more than that lol

Be grateful that it is low enough for the lamps to flicker at startup!

It should also not fry the tubes or the ballast at EOL.

That's where the electronic instant start ballast comes into play. Put EOL tubes on the electronic ballast and you will get a heck of a show! You could also use a magnetic slimline ballast, but EOL tubes may damage the magnetic slimline ballast.

I meant that as a good thing! It is fun to fry them when you want to but only when you want to and can watch it. This type ballast is a lot safer.
