Dead - Triad 3x F32T8 Ballast

Dead - Triad 3x F32T8 Ballast

Click to view full size image

A Triad 3-lamp F32T8 ballast that went EOL for no reason (all 3 lamps still work). Lasted approx 12 years.
Got this from work before it went out in the trash ... simply to open up & post a pic.
As you can see its full of tar (very common with ballasts here) so even if you wanted to try & fix you couldn't do so

Wow, I've never seen an electronic ballast full of tar like this before. All the ones we have here are of european origin (Osram, Tridonic etc) and all the components are accessible. Doesn't mean they are any good though (just ask Kev lol). 12 years seems good though for electronic.

Traffic signals & street lighting engineer. Please bring SOX/LPS back Downunder!!

I have had good luck with Universal Triad. I have installed quite a few of them, and as far as I know, they all still work.

The Triad ballasts that are made in China are junk. Here is one of several that have failed before the lamps. On the other hand, the Triad ballasts from Mexico are good quality.

Pride and quality workmanship should lie behind manufacturing, not greed.

The tar is indeed strange. I see it already cracked - so this one will make the ballast way more sensitive to water than without the tar - as once the water goes into that crack, it will take way longer to evaporate, so more likely to cause problems...

From each ballast type, regardless if electronic or magnetic, you always find batches and pieces failing after few hours, as well as batches lasting decades. Ironically there are not so many pieces between...
So always, when you look back, the older things appear to be less failing than new. But the reason is, the weaker pieces of the older type are already scrapped for many years and so forgotten...

No more selfballasted c***
