I really like this picture.

Nothing like the beautiful cool white light of a coated Mercury Vapor lamp and the soothing hum of it's magnetic ballast.

Cool someone else with a projector! I've got one that uses a UHP mercury lamp.

I want a projector but the $400 replacement bulbs keep me away from getting one.

Nothing like the beautiful cool white light of a coated Mercury Vapor lamp and the soothing hum of it's magnetic ballast.

Is that DLP. Mine is LCD. I got it off ebay for £20. It has a UHP merury lamp, which you can tell based on its spectrum.

It's a single chip sequential-colour DLP, which means that only one colour is projected at any one moment but it is so fast the eyes 'see' the mixed colour. However on really fast scenes or high contrast (the white text on black background during the end credits of a film is a real eyestrain) you can see the rainbow effect.

I believe the lamp is some type of UHP, it is an Osram P-VIP 180w lamp running at 150w as I use it in 'eco-mode' which reduces lamp power to increase life and lower fan noise. The room is quite small and I always have the main lights off so the lower lumens aren't a problem.

I use mine in eco mode too. Mine uses 3 LCD panels. One for red, green and violet. Each one displays the image with that colour only. The light goes through them and is recombined and projected onto the screen.

Mine is 2000lumens normal and 1600 eco.
