Spectra of Crappy "Pure" gases in ampoules.

Spectra of Crappy "Pure" gases in ampoules.

Bought some ampoules with supposedly pure gases (ebay-Austria, somewhat expensive). Used a naked CMOS body. 99.99% pure? My ass! Many are contaminated with Nitrogen. Lit by inducing a very hi-voltage & hi-frequency across the coils. There are small differences in the spectral lines between the gap and near the coils. Confusing with all impurities. Argon contains O2 and everything below N2 contain N2. Bah

I supposed that they didn't make this hot enough to scavenged these impurities out of the tube

Pretty, please no more Chinese failure.

I guess the upside is that you have the intricate means to display this shortcoming in some considerable detail. Very interesting...they're busted, lol.

While examining the somewhat familiar Neon spectrum w/my camera replay, a horrible sinking feeling came over me thinking "Oh no, FAKED for the Periodic-Table collectors!!". Seems that they actually did put some of the noble gases in these ampoules to change the color if you applied a current through them. Which I did. Nitrogen had the prettiest color.. even fluorescing some whites.
