500 watt Chicken heat lamp

500 watt Chicken heat lamp

This lamp came from my grandma's farmhouse attic, once again. Great grandma told me, that when she used to raise chickens, she used these 500 watt HUMONGOUS lamps to heat the chicks when mom was not in the nest. They were hanging around 50 cm above the chicks, and winter time, 30 cm above the chicks. If this is true use for this lamp - do not know. I once had a. etched top version of this lamp, but It was broken by me when I was 10 years old and didn't know any better. I was spoiled little brat, I broke many rare lamps when I was young kid, simply just from needing to see what the filament looks inside and so on. I remember I once had a 150 watt version of white frosted krypton mushroom lamp, that had slightly larger envelope than the normal 100 watt version, and yet I broke it just to see the filament. Damn me...

Of course, these lamps can be used as a source of heat, but for young piglets and chicks it is better to use special infraRED lamps.

They do not give a lot of light, which can interfere with sleeping animals. Only warmth.
These lamps are used for drying or as a source of powerful local lighting.
