The Evil Cadmium is still around!

It's hard to believe that at the end of 2019 you can still buy NiCd AA batteries. You can.
I have been using NiMH AA/AAA batteries for the last 20+ years. This experimental NiCd pair is for a higher drain application where NiMH seem to perform worse after ~50 recharge cycles. NiCads should be better. On the other hand, with their funny 600mAh capacity (actually 1/3 or 1/4 capacity of modern NiMH AA batteries), more frequent recharging will be needed.
They'll be properly recycled at the end of their life and their cadmium won't end in the sea.

From what I understand they're still available as replacements for emergency lighting fittings, I have an 8W T5 fitting with one in. Someone told me that they will probably have to keep them available for this purpose for some time, as if there were an emergency and all the emergency lights didn't work, people might not be very happy and start suing all over the place..!

It'll be all right in the end, and if it isn't all right, it isn't the end  Smiley
