50w merc posttop?

50w merc posttop?

I spotted this in Friend, NE when we were visiting relatives. It had a mercury lamp in it, and it wasn't very bright at all. I think it may be 50w mercury. Did they ever make these in a 50w version?

Nice! I suppose you can make any post light 50W MV if you use a postline ballast, or get a small enough ballast inside the fixture. Looks like this one's in the fixture.

Please check out my newly-updated website! McCann Lighting Company is where my street light collection is displayed in detail.

There is a 50w merc postline ballast on ebay right now. I want it so bad, but don't have $130 to spend on a small ballast.

My gramps has one of these, but it's rusted out and disused due to his house being abandoned for years until he bought it, that's why he has t shaped Philip bulbs.

@Solanaceae You should try to get it. Is it 50w mercury? Ballasts for those are very rare.

Well I can In March. Granted, the ballast is probably rusted to you know what after years of abandonment and tropical weather, but worth a shot.

If the fixture itself is salvagable but the ballast is done for, you could put a 50w MH or HPS ballast in it...

No, there's a hole rusted thru the top. I want to find a complete post top so I can use my 50w MV ballast in. The one my grandpa has is the exact style as this too.
Also, these fixtures are why you should bring a hacksaw and tools on vacation.

First, it's on private property and I am not up for getting arrested, second, power is still connected and cutting the pole would be a pretty stupid thing to do.

Rusted holes in the top roof of lanterns of this style are easy fix - Get a stainless square food tray of the right size and drill as needed

This looks like it's similar if not exactly like the one I saw. But some bozo took the top off.
