This lamp with black sock only in use for 3 months. This one had some darking about 2' up for some reason? It's odd it won t work on a electronic ballast only on a magnetic. The out side lamps are electronic inside magnetic. I just want to see how long it will work for until eol.

In my experience, the electronic Slimline ballasts have only 600v OCV, whereas a magnetic slimline has about 750v. Maybe that's why?

Actually yes, in this case. (With normal F40/RS, no way). I've got an electronic RS F40 ballast which wires up like a RS and actually even starts somewhat similarly (well, more like a programmed start). I'm curious to see how it'll do on a spent bulb but I just relamped everything with brand new from Philips Daylight Deluxe Altos.

I also have a fixture with an old (1989) Advance 1.45a slimline ballast which has a bad cap and won't reliably start 8' lamps (albeit crappy 60w energy savers). I set it up to run F40s (deep enough ballast channel in this old vaportight fixture from a cannery to fit it) and I'm curious what it'll do to a spent lamp but haven't tried. It has a couple old Power Twist Vita-Lites in there that are close to EOL and won't start on preheat or rapid start but I'm using them there to still use and enjoy them until the end. It starts em fine and they do run peacefully/normally, albeit instant started, despite one being pretty black on one end.
