Nissan Titan headlamp projector retrofit

Nissan Titan headlamp projector retrofit

Click to view full size image

A view of the retrofit project I am doing on my Nissan Titan. I have always wanted to tackle this project, so I am underway now. In the high-beam position I have installed an ACME projector with Morimoto H1 3000K yellow HID bulb, this will be operated by the factory fog light circuit. In the low-beam position I have installed a NHK G5-R bi-xenon projector using Philips 85122+ HID bulbs. Both are being powered by their own Hylux 45w ballast with integrated ignitors.

These aren't xenon lamps but simply MH lamps.

I"m don't speak English well, and rely on online translating to write in this site.
Please forgive me if my choice of my words looks like offensive, while that isn't my intention.

I only working with the European date format (dd.mm.yyyy).

I lives in Israel, which is a 230-240V, 50hz country.

You do realize that you are violating Federal Motor Vehicle regulation 108? Automotive lighting is highly regulated, and simply because you can modify your headlights, doesn't mean you should.

Want to read up on FMV 108? Here you go... https://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/CFR-2004-title49-vol5/xml/CFR-2004-title49-vol5-sec571-108.xml

A man has two lives to live, and the second one begins when he realizes he only has one.

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and to remove all doubt.

Be that as it may, I doubt he--and the countless others who modify their headlights--cares too much, provided it's done tastefully. I see no harm in doing modifications if they don't cause undue distraction or safety issues. I've modified headlamps before and was never flashed by other drivers or cited for doing so.

Fog lights aren't intended to light the road, but only to allow you to see through the fog, and using special lamps such as MH lamps or high wattage lamps inside them, is considered a criminal offense worldwide. Even turning on the fog lights when they aren't needed is a criminal offense.

I don't think there was ever a legality question. I don't know why people feel they need to harp on this. There are so many illegal modifications people (on this website) do to standard household fixtures, it's a wonder more apartments and homes haven't burned to the ground, yet I don't see people pointing out the obvious to those members. I'd hate for you all to know how many times I've neglected to put my phone in airplane mode while traveling by air, or other local and international atrocities I have committed in a blatant disregard for safety.

There are differences between modifications in household fixtures than in vehicles.

No the problem is that the user making the modifications doesn’t care. And there are codes that do, in fact, limit what a person can do with their own property in their own home. I brought it up because because I find a great number of people here trivial and petty. You can cite laws all day, but if someone doesn’t wish to obey them, they won’t. And if the website leadership wants to take action on this user for this one particular “illegality,” the. I’d be happy to provide a list of the countless others users of this board commit every day. If you don’t like what someone posts, don’t comment, or if you feel the act is so egregious it requires immediate intervention, bring it to the attention of leadership and let them deal with it.

Wow, some strange responses here.

dor123, you're just nit-picking. MH, xenon, whatever. In the USA, any vehicle with bi-xenon headlamps is referred to as such even by the manufacturers. Semantics doesn't matter.

FMV108....who cares? Actually, what does an OEM do differently than a knowledgeable person who is skilled at retrofitting? I am using high-end projectors and aiming them in the EXACT SAME manner as would be used on any other vehicle equipped with this type of light from the factory. There is no difference.

Fog light...again, who cares? Almost all fog lights are useless anyways, on some cars I have owned I have actually made it so that the fog lights can be on all the time. Fog lights are harmless. Not much different than DRLs which are mandated in many places.

Laws and regulations are made to keep people from harming others. If you modify things with an understanding of laws and regulations, and the proper way to modify, there is no harm. I am glad I do not exist in your mental state where you need to nit-pick everything, so sad!

Being a person who goes everywhere on a bicycle I gotta say that I do prettymuch hate any other technology in car headlights other than halogen... If they colored LED's and HID's the same way as halogens I doubt I'd recognize the difference but no matter if they're factory focused or installed by some inexperienced person it seems either way they do a number on one's eyeballs... I also don't see a reason for headlights that can literally shine over lake Michigan for a mile.. No joke I've witnessed this while trying to enjoy the view on the pier in south haven. The guy was on a street inland and suddenly I thought I saw a damn search light. Nope just someone's overpowered headlights... There's so many things that are annoying about headlights. Honestly even some halogens are bad... But the bad halogens I've seen are SOO much fewer than all the HID and LED abominations that create havoc on my retinas. I believe the worst thing to encounter on a bike ride is some arsehole who sees you and then TURNS ON his/her brights instead of turning them off. I hate encountering that.

I kinda wish they'd do here what they used to do in France and mandate yellow headlights. I believe they'd be better in on coming traffics eyes and yellow cuts through fog pretty well..
