eBay find, it was supposed to be a Philips MV lamp from 1989, but it's okay for what it is.

I might try this shape of MH lamp in my converted yardblaster.

Say NO to ballast and bulb bans. MV, MH, HPS, and SOX forever!!!! Magnetic preheat fluorescent forever!!!!!

Desire to collect various light bulbs (especially HID), ballasts, and fixtures from around the world.

At least you have the rarer half ellipsoid and other half A-shaped envelope in your collection

Pretty, please no more Chinese failure.

Cool! I think these bulbs were made to fit in GE's "Sunsystem" HID hanging cans because you were then forced to buy lamps from GE. It should be a standard 175 watt MH electrically though.

Cool lamp! I don’t think I’ve ever seen a 175w MH in that shape before.

I like all kinds of lighting and electrical, except for LED, which I classify as a disease.

They are not cans, I don't really know how to describe them. Kind of like a hanging cylinder.

I think i have a photo of some similar fixtures on my camera's SD (that i have not uploaded yet).

Old lighting is, and will always be, the best lighting.

They sound like they're those pendant stem mounted HID cylinder lights. Also I didn't know that was the reason for the oddball shape.

The flaw in GEs plan was that tubular lamps will fit just nicely in those fixtures lol

The 250w versions of those cans can permit the installation of a British 250w MA/V or a British 250w tubular MB/U lamp.

Yeah, and with the 175w lamps, you could also defeat it with a mogul to medium adapter and a medium base lamp.
