Very nice example, its the first time I see a tube marked AC or DC. I think it may be from 1953 - if 1943 I would expect it to say Westinghouse Mazda.

The official name for a lamp envelope is still a bulb whatever its shape. Even in a fluorescent lamp plant the tubes used for the envelope are called bulbs, even though you’re right they are not bulbous at all. And HID lamps are assembled from tubular bulbs.
