Wow that's a big-boy lamp right there! I like the painted ceiling joists too. Pretty cool! Hopefully it's not lead paint lol.

As for the painted ceiling joists, one day before most of the basement was finished, my grandfather decided the whole thing from the highest point on the ceiling to the lowest point on the floor had to be blue except his tool room. My grandmother had a freak attack when she got home from work and saw the basement. To this day my grandfather doesn't know why he painted the basement blue. Luckily now most of it is finished so no more blue.

If it's that large, it's not a CFL anymore. It's a LSBFL (Large Self-Ballasted Fluorescent Light)

Actually it is still a CFL. "Compact" is a relative term, as a full-size 100W fluorescent lamp would be a F96T12/HO for example (110W, but you get the idea). As a joke on here we call lare CFLs "Not-so-Compact fluorescent lamps". Typically the older GE Compax lamps and similar lamps are called those.

I have four units like this. But mine are all spiral. They are VERY bright. E27 base. I bought them through one of my suppliers at work.

If properly ventilated these will last decent. They tend to dim as the phosphors degrade from the heat though.

I've even called the early CFLs, i.e the preheat integrated bullet type or the PL13/PL9/PL7/PL5/FUL12/FC8T9 adapters "Not so C, FLs"

This is probably about as big as a 400 or 1000 watt HID lamp!
